IPL Perth Skin Rejuvenation Treatment

IPL is performed for both aesthetic and therapeutic purposes, including skin rejuvenation, skin pigmentation, sun damage, flushing and redness. The light penetrates the tissue and targets specific structures and chromophores (melanin in pigmentation and hair, or oxyhemoglobin in blood vessels). They are heated until becoming denatured and then eliminated by the body.

At Karen Bowen Skin Clinic, the highest quality, medical-grade equipment is used; Lumenis. The Lumenis Aesthetic Division originates from Israel, and is a global leader in energy-based aesthetic devices. Lumenis is a pioneer in the field and was the first in the world to introduce IPL. Karen has trained with Dermatologist Dr. Mitchel Goldman, the inventor of IPL.

To ensure the safety and comfort of all clients, we follow a strict protocol that every new client must undergo a “test patch” using the Lumenis equipment prior to receiving a full treatment. During this initial appointment, you will be able to discuss a treatment plan with our team to ensure we achieve the optimum results for you. Our therapists will instruct you on how many treatments you will require and the time frame between each treatment. Karen Bowen Dermal Therapist requires every client to adhere to specific after care instructions to ensure patient comfort and safety.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does IPL feel like?

Many clients describe the feeling of IPL being similar to that of an elastic band flicking on the skin.

The length of each treatment depends entirely on the area being treated. For example, treating the full face may take approximately 20-30mins, or a full back for hair removal can take approximately 1 hour. Our therapists will provide you with an estimated time upon booking.

Every patient is treated as an individual and the number of treatments required cannot be specifically given prior to the initial appointment. During the consultation, our team will discuss treatment options and assess the area being treated.

It is typical to experience localised erythema (redness) and skin sensitivity for up to 14 days following treatment. Some clients may also experience minor oedema (swelling).
If pigmentation is being treated, you will experience a darkening to the area and a “milo-ing” effect which can appear raised on the surface. This may take up to 14 days to resolve.
Our team of therapists will provide after-care instructions that will assist in reducing any discomfort.

This will depend entirely on what you are receiving treatment for. For patients with redness or pigmentation, the noticeable changes to your skin will occur almost immediately, and a few short weeks following your treatment. For treating fine lines and ageing skin, collagen and elastin is very slow to regenerate, and the best results will be seen approximately 6-12 months following your course of IPL.
